Chris Haugen: Bio

Chris picked up the guitar as a youngster and played in bands throughout his youth. He attended UCSD, where he studied political science and music, earning a degree in Polsci. At UCSD, Chris met the members of Jambay, and began to perform and tour. Among the hilights of his work with the critically acclaimed Jambay, was a close working relationship with Ken Kesey. In the years following Jambay, Chris played lead guitar for a host of esteemed artists including Melvin Seals and Theresa Andersson. In 2007, Chris performed lap steel on the "Into the Wild" film score, directed by Sean Penn. The next year he released "Seahorse Rodeo", featuring instrumental Weissenborn. The album landed a cover feature in the SF Chronicle Datebook. Chris is currently working on a new record which will feature collaborations with Ted Templeman. When not playing music, you can find Chris surfing in Northern California.

Some year by year highlights:

2009: Founded "Newfangled Wasteland". A fun Beck cover band.

2008: Seahorse Rodeo Released. Sundance showcase with John Popper.

2007: 'Into the Wild' film score performance. Collaboration with Sean Penn.

2004/2005: Lead guitar with Theresa Andersson (New Orleans).

2001-2003: Lead guitar with Melvin Seals (Melvin played in the Jerry Garcia Band 1979-1995).

1999: Toured with Ken Kesey on the Further Bus throughout the UK and Ireland. Composed music for a BBC Documentary on our trip, entitled "Where's Merlin".

1990-1997: Founded and played lead guitar in Jambay.
